The Shiants (pronounced "Shants") are a group of three small uninhabited islands off the north west coast of Scotland. The name is Scottish Gaelic for, literally, the fairy hills but probably best translates as "the Enchanted Islands".
This is Eilean Tigh ("House Island"), and the view is taken from Garbh Eilean, or "Craggy Island". The two are linked by a boulder strand. The cottage you can see is the only one on the Shiants and is used by visiting shepherds.
There's a good book about the Shiants called "Sea Room" written by their owner, Adam Nicholson. Text by Neil F. King.
